Hands on a steering wheel, driving on a busy highway at sunset. Text "Advent Traffic" in bold red. Warm, glowing light in the background.

Advent Traffic enables prosecutors and law enforcement agencies to design and manage customized traffic diversion programs. A prime example is the Oswego Traffic Diversion Program, which offers an alternative resolution for traffic violations. Through Advent Traffic’s streamlined online process, defendants can take specific steps to work toward the dismissal of their traffic tickets. Here’s a closer look at how the program operates.

1. Awareness Cards or Stickers Provided at Citation

When a traffic citation is issued, law enforcement officers provide the defendant with a program awareness card or sticker. This card directs them to the Oswego County District Attorney’s website, where they can explore their options for handling the violation. The program aims to ensure defendants are informed of their rights and potential resolutions.

2. Learning About Options on the County Website

Once on the website, defendants can review the available options for managing their ticket, including applying for the Traffic Diversion Program. The website clearly outlines what defendants can expect if they apply, including potential eligibility criteria and what steps they may need to take.

3. Applying for the Traffic Diversion Program

Defendants interested in the program can submit an online application. This process is user-friendly and customizable to meet Oswego County’s needs.

During the application, defendants may be required to upload key documents like:

  • Their traffic citation

  • A Driving History Abstract

Once submitted, defendants will click "Apply" to complete the process.

4. Application Review Process

Once an application is submitted, the Oswego County Prosecutor’s Office is automatically notified. The prosecutor will then:

  • Review the application

  • Determine the defendant’s eligibility

If approved, the defendant will be electronically notified and given access to the program requirements. If denied, the defendant will also be notified electronically.

5. Program Requirements for Successful Completion

The typical requirements for successfully completing Oswego County’s Traffic Diversion Program include:

  • Administrative Fee: Payment of a specified fee

  • Driver Improvement Program: Completion of an approved driving course

Requirements may vary, but these two are standard.

6. Dismissal and Completion

Once the defendant meets all program requirements, the system will automatically issue a Certificate of Completion. The court that issued the original ticket will be electronically notified with a dismissal offer. In the interest of justice, the court is then asked to accept the dismissal of the case.
